Jonathan Lloyd Paul

Jonathan has been accepted to the University of Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. Jonathan Paul is a recent graduate of Southern Connecticut State University (2017) with a Bachelors of Science degree majoring in Exercise Science from an ACSM accredited program and has a double minor in chemistry and biology.

In his tenure at Southern Connecticut, Jonathan dedicated his time to both the academic and humanitarian aspects of medicine. He was a member of Zeta Delta Epsilon, an academic and service honors society that was fixated on improving the surrounding community of the Greater New Haven area through serving and mentoring underrepresented individuals. Jonathan was also a 4 year member and 2 year captain of the SCSU men's basketball program where he accrued the most "wins" in school history.

He has had the opportunity to shadow different doctors in various clinical sites learning how medicine works first hand in trauma centers, general hospitals, and oncology labs. Jonathan has also completed a Cardiac Rehabilitation internship at Griffin Hospital where he was responsible for monitoring high risk patients during their rehabilitation from various cardiovascular diseases. Through a fun and interactive environment Jonathan monitored and educated his patients about a plethora of topics that are all centered around preventative medicine and patient care.

In addition to clinical experience, Jonathan is also research oriented. Jonathan has interned with Dr. Parkash Gill M.D. at his Oncology lab at USC Norris and developed the skills necessary to complete Western Blot and immunofluorescent tests which are used to show different markers that indicate lung cancers, situationally, mesothelioma. He has a strong desire not only to find a cure for the debilitating lung cancer but also to promote healthy habits and an active lifestyle as a necessity with the label of preventative medicine. During his time at SCSU Jonathan conducted research on the oral-to-nasal transfer of respiration and found that the switch in the style of respiration correlated with the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA at 4mmol) or the point at which lactate is no longer able to be efficiently cleared from the body.

Jonathan is also currently conducting research in conjunction with the Small World Initiative, a crowd sourced platform which promotes the research and identification of modern and viable antibiotics, in preparation to combat the new and aptly named "superbugs" that are an eminent global threat. Looking forward Jonathan intends to continue his research in infectious disease and hopes to then apply to medical schools in the summer of 2018.
